A tour to West Greenland that visits the spectacular town of Ilulissat where some of the world's largest icebergs crowd the famous Ilulissat Icefjord.  Exposure to such scenery is simply breath-taking.

First, a flight from Europe takes you over the Icecap from East to West; a distance of around 640 kilometres, some of ice below reaching depths of many thousands of metres.  Having landed at Kangerlussuaq near the western edge of the ice, you will board another flight and travel on to beautiful Ilulissat.

World-class Icebergs
Flying in low over icebergs of the the Icefjord is an unforgettable experience.  It is not hard to understand why this fjord has been made a UNESCO World Heritage Site.  The icebergs, many over 100 metres high, come from a near-by glacier that calves enormous amounts of ice into the fjord every day.  There are tours available, depending on conditions, to take a boat out amongst the icebergs in the fjord. 

A thriving town
A stay in Ilulissat also allows you to experience a busy yet traditional Greenlandic town set within breath-taking scenery.  This is a superb dog sledding district, and sleds are still used here as an important means of transport for the locals, particularly the fishermen.  There are great opportunities to join them on their sleds and and travel out into the wilderness.  This age-old way of travelling is surely one of the best means of experiencing the beauty of Greenland and the Arctic.
